BROMLEY, Lorna

Lorna (Lockett) Bromley died on the 13th April 2018 at the age of 88 and up until the day she died was a passionate supporter of the North Ballarat Football Club.

Lorna began following the club as a 16 year old in 1946.

Lorna lived with her family on the farm next to the Northern Oval and Lorna was to live in her family home until she was 77.
In 1949 Lorna joined the Committee of the Football Club and never left the Club.
Lorna married Dudley in 1954 and they established a family.
Her brothers played for the Club as did Dudley.

Lorna’s life long love affair with the Club continued until her passing.
Her son played with the Club as do her grandsons now. Lorna’s family relationships exist throughout the Club.
Lorna was appointed as the President of the Ladies Committee in 1980 and served in this role until her passing.

For 69 years Lorna worked on the Ladies Committee which catered for various events and kept the Club going in the hard times.
The ladies ran canteens up until 2016 and Lorna and her members would have undertaken thousands of shifts – serving in the canteen, serving the famous ‘Ins and Outs Dinners’ for all levels of the Club – all without monetary reward.
Lorna epitomised the culture of the Club – she was selfless, always giving of her time and welcoming.
Lorna would greet everyone with a smile, a good word and never was judgemental. She was fiercely loyal to the Club and its supporters.

Nothing was ever too much trouble for Lorna and she regarded the Club as her extended family.
In 1982 Lorna was recognised with Life Membership of the Club and in 2003 Lorna was one of the 6 inaugural inductees into the Club’s Hall of Fame.

In 2014 Lorna was awarded the ‘Alec Gillon’ Volunteer of the Year Award by AFL Victoria.
Lorna was a selfless and tireless servant of the Club throughout her 72 years of outstanding service.
No one ever had a bad word to say about Lorna or her about anyone else.

Lorna’s passion for the Club was unrivalled and she wanted the Club to go on with the same passion and love for its members.

Lorna loved the Club and the Club loved her.
