Marjory Jean Govan was born at her grandmother's house at 1002 Dana Street on the 24th August 1916. Her father, Thomas William Hunt, worked at the Sunshine Biscuit Factory until he joined his father in working on the then-renowned pie cart. Marj attended Pleasant Street State School until she completed her 8th grade and then attended Ballarat High School. There were nine children in her family and she was the eldest. When Marj left school she worked for her uncle, Bert Pattie, who was a bookbinder and printer in Sturt Street whose premises were located behind the then State Bank on the Camp Street corner. She remained there for ten years until she married.
Marj married Syd Govan, who was a charge nurse at Lakeside, in April 1942 and they had three children - Barry Lindsay, and Heather. Syd was also a musician and in the war years played in dance bands as far away as Warracknabeal.
Marj died on the 25th May 2006 and is located at the Ballarat Old Cemetery South Square Section 4 Grave 1
