Madge Everlyn Bartrop (Macarthur) Born 13th May 1904 Died 25th November 1999.


As a young girl lived at Bacchus Marsh and following the death of her parents transferred to Ballarat to live with her maternal grandfather and a maiden aunt.


Secondary schooling was at Ballarat high School where she met (and later married) Edgar Bartrop.
Leaving school she became a teacher and taught at Macarthur Street State School (Miss McArthur at Macarthur Street).
Following her marriage in 1927, she had three children’s, Edgar Jr., Joan and Bruce.


With husband, Edgar she travelled extensively and was very involved in many Ballarat activities and organisations, particularly associated with the Begonia Festival. She sang in the Wesley Church (Methodist) choir and was active in such organisations as the Ballarat Library Society, Ballarat National Council of Women, Ballarat Music Levers Club, Ladies Committees of Alexandra Babies Home, Ballarat Orphanage, Lydiard Literary Society, and a Past President of most.

For some time she also undertook book reviews with Val Oldfield on BTV6.

Madge is buried at the Ballarat New Cemetery with her husband Edgar in Lawn H Row 16 Grave 57
